At Maple, we believe that an environment that promotes enjoyment and curiosity of mathematics provides all children with strong foundations for further mathematics learning.
Through engaging, high quality teaching, children have opportunities to apply mathematical language and express their growing mathematical thinking when reasoning. Our aim is for children to develop fluency in fundamental mathematical concepts and have a variety of strategies they can draw upon when problem solving. We want children to leave our infant school with mathematical confidence. |
Mathematics Mastery at MapleIn Key Stage 1, years 1 and 2 follow the Mathematics Mastery programme. This programme is based upon research and has been shown to give pupils on average one months’ additional progress after one year. Mathematics Mastery helps children to develop fluency and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. Children in KS1 participate in whole-class maths lessons alongside short and regular ‘maths meetings’, which help to keep key skills and concepts simmering.
Mathematics in the EYFS incorporates key principles of Mathematics Mastery, such as regular ‘maths meetings’ and accurately using mathematical language. |
